MOUNT CARMEL — Three on-the-job trainees began working at the Mount Carmel Area Community Center through the Mount Carmel Area Revitalization Initiative.
The trainees started receiving hands-on instruction on Aug. 10 from Mount Carmel Mayor Philip “Bing” Cimino, with H&P Construction, Inc. overseeing the training. Through the program, the participants are gaining practical workplace skills and experience while contributing to improvements at an important community facility.
The training opportunity is designed to connect workforce development with community revitalization by providing local residents with valuable experience through projects that directly benefit the Mount Carmel community.
“This is exactly the type of meaningful, community-based opportunity that the Mount Carmel Area Revitalization Initiative was created to support,” said Betsy Kramer, Director of Community Revitalization at SEDA-Council of Governments. “These trainees are gaining practical experience while contributing to a facility that serves the entire community. We are incredibly grateful to Mayor Cimino, H&P Construction, Inc., and all the partners who worked together to make this first training opportunity possible.”
The on-the-job training program represents the first workforce development project implemented through the broader Mount Carmel Area Revitalization Initiative.
The collaborative effort brings together Coalfield Development, Partners for Rural Impact, Central Susquehanna Opportunities, the Mount Carmel Area Community Center, the Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit, H&P Construction, Inc., Bucknell University, the Borough of Mount Carmel and SEDA-Council of Governments.
Supported by Bloomberg Philanthropies, the initiative seeks to align workforce development, community services, physical revitalization, and economic opportunity to help create a stronger and more resilient future for Mount Carmel.
Additional projects and training opportunities will be developed as the coalition continues its work in the community.
